WHO WE ARE

Our story began around 2010, when a handful of individuals at the Christ Lutheran Church on East Houston Ave came up with the idea that they could help make a difference in our town by providing food for those in need. In the beginning, they gave away hot dogs and cereal, but would start to offer other food options as time would go on. When Christ Lutheran Church closed it's doors, Footprints pivoted and moved to the St. John’s Lutheran Brick Church on Route 405 where we kept building on the momentum that was started previously. With more and more food coming in and more and more people wanting to donate and volunteer, we were bursting at the seams in our current space and needed a larger location. In 2014 a perfect space opened off Bower St at the railroad tracks and in a building on Bower St Extension.  In fact, this location has some previous history of helping people. This building once housed a makeshift shelter and hospital during the 1972 and 1976 floods. With over 1200sq ft to work with, we got to work fixing up the place and filling our shelves with lots of great food for our community. As of today, we have 25 volunteers and we supply food to almost 150 families in the Montgomery Area.

WHAT WE DO

Two days out of the month, we provide individuals living in the Montgomery School District with a variety of food and supplies from fresh fruits and vegetables to dry goods, canned goods and even frozen meats and vegetables. We also offer baby supplies and a variety of toiletries... All at no cost to the residents.

How do we do that? Every Monday, we open our doors for donations from the community. Both individuals and businesses stop by dropping off donated food they had been collecting.  Also, large corporations supply us with large quantities of items. Finally, with the money we receive, we purchase food at local grocery stores, food banks and supply chains to help fill our shelves for our community.

WHY WE DO IT

We're dedicated to providing food and making our community healthy.

In the words of Footprint's Leader Karen Eck, "When you have someone come in one day with tears in their eyes and say I can't afford to buy groceries this month. I need help", it really pulls at your heart strings.  We are compelled to help.  But what makes it worth it, is when they come back the following month with a smile on their face and simply say, "Thank You. If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't have had food for the month. You really made a difference in my life."  That's why we do it....

OUR VISION >
